The crew declared PAN PAN and returned to Toronto for a safe landing on runway 05 about 25 minutes after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported: "Prior to departure there was an incident during push-back where the ground completed the pushback and disconnected the tow bar, but forget to tell the crew to set the brakes. The aircraft started to roll forward and the flight crew applied the brakes. The aircraft was checked for damage by the ground crew and no apparent damage was found. After landing, Sunwing maintenance inspected the aircraft at the gate and determined that the right nose gear door retraction lever was broken."
