The crew managed to establish contact with another aircraft nearby, advised them of their situation, they would be diverting to Kingfisher Lake. The other aircraft activated the pilot controlled runway lights at Kingfisher Lake and relayed the Mayday Call to ATC (Winnipeg Area Control Center). When the Dash 8 was on the base leg for approach to Kingfisher Lake a strong smell of fumes developed in the cockpit. Followign circuit breakers had tripped: #1 Air Data Computer, #1 Radar Altimeter, three separate lighting circuit breakers and two announciator circuit breakers. Maintenance found an unserviceable left starter-generator. The starter-generator was replaced and the aircraft flown to the mainteance base at Thunder Bay,ON (Canada) for further inspection under ferry permit.

The aircraft performed a test flight on Feb 8th 2020 and returned to service afterwards.
