The airline confirmed the tail of the aircraft touched down before the main wheels resulting in a hard landing. Rain and gusts may have contributed. A replacement ATR-72-212A regiatration F-ORVT reached Papeete with a delay of about 8 hours.
On Jan 31st 2020 the airline told The Aviation Herald that their "ATR 72-212A F-ORVI has encountered a "tail bumper touch down" at landing in Tubuai airport caused by gust winds". The vertical acceleration was measured at +1.77G (at 22 tons landing weight) and thus did not exceed the hard landing limit +2.3G (at 22 tons). The structure under the floor panels was examined with no damage found. A sensor was replaced and the aircraft was released back to service.
No weather data are available for NTAT (Tubuai).
