A S7 Sibir Airlines Embraer ERJ-170, registration VQ-BYN performing flight S7-5017 from Novosibirsk to Ekaterinburg (Russia) with 79 people on board, was climbing out of Novosibirsk when the crew stopped the climb at FL090 due to problems with the flaps retraction. The aircraft entered a hold to burn off fuel and returned to Novosibirsk for a safe landing about one hour after departure.

A replacement Embraer ERJ-170 registration VQ-BBO reached Ekaterinburg with a delay of 2.5 hours.

The West Siberian Transport Prosecution Office reported the aircraft with 77 passengers and 2 crew (?) returned to Novosibirk due to a malfunctioning sensor.

The airline reported the flaps could not be fully retracted.
