A Skywest Canadair CRJ-700 on behalf of Delta Airlines, registration N641CA performing flight DL-3966 from Appleton,WI to Minneapolis,MN (USA) with 65 people on board, was climbing out of Appleton's runway 21 when the crew stopped the climb at about 9000 feet and returned to Appleton due to smell of smoke in the cabin. The aircraft landed safely back on Appleton's runway 21 about 13 minutes after departure.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Appleton about 10 hours after landing.
