A Qantas Boeing 737-800, registration VH-VZJ performing flight QF-772 from Perth,WA to Melbourne,VI (Australia) with 116 people on board, was climbing out of Perth's runway 21 when the crew reported a bird strike and vibrations. The aircraft levelled off at 5000 feet. The aircraft entered a hold while the crew was workign the checklists, the crew subsequently declared PAN PAN reporting operations were normal. The aircraft landed back on Perth's runway 21 about 40 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration VH-VZB reached Melbourne with a delay of 2:45 hours.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 5.5 hours after landing back.
