A United Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration N459UA performing flight UA-224 from Chicago O'Hare,IL to Boston,MA (USA) with 145 passengers and 5 crew, was on approach to Boston levelling at 4000 feet when the crew reported they had just lost some instruments and requested to enter a holding requesting ATC keep them clear of other traffic and terrain while they were working the issue. The crew checked weather at Manchester,NH and Hartford,CT which were not favourable too. The crew subsequently advised they wanted to give the ILS 22L a try and were ready for the approach, they had lost pressurization now as well and in case they diverted to Hartford would not be able to climb much higher. The crew reported they got an ident on the localizer 22L and were good to go, the aircraft was cleared to intercept the localizer. The crew reported they thought they were established on the localizer which the final approach controller did not disagree with, the aircraft was cleared for the ILS approach and was handed off to tower. Tower cleared the aircraft to land on runway 22L, reported cloud ceiling at 400 feet by pilot report of the preceding traffic and requested radio silence while the crew "was working on landing". The aircraft landed safely on runway 22L, the crew did not require any further assistance and taxied to the gate.

The airport reported UA-224 landed on runway 22L visually because of instrument problems.

The airline reported the crew performed a visual landing due to an issue with the instruments.
