A Spicejet de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration VT-SUM performing flight SG-3722 from Bhopal to Surat Gurajat (India) with 43 passengers and 4 crew, landed on Surat Gurajat's runway 22 at about 20:15L (14:45Z) in a heavy downpour and significantly overran the end of the runway coming to a stop on soft ground just short and to the right of the localizer antenna about 270 meters/880 feet past the end of the runway. The passengers disembarked via the aircraft's stairs. There were no injuries, the airport needed to be closed over night. The aircraft sustained minor if any damage.

No meaningful NOTAMs were released (the youngest NOTAM released for the airport dates from 2018, the oldest, long expired, dates back to 2004).

AIP India reports the current runway length at 2250 meters (work to lengthen the runway is in progress) with a landing distance available of 2250 meters for runway 22. Runway 22 features an ILS Category I, runway 04 has only a VOR approach published.
