A British Airways Airbus A320-200, registration G-GATH performing flight BA-2731 from Tenerife South,CI (Spain) to London Gatwick,EN (UK), was climbing out of Tenerife's runway 07 when the crew stopped the climb at FL140 due to an engine (V2527) problem. The aircraft entered a hold at FL080 to burn off fuel and returned to Tenerife for a safe landing on runway 07 about two hours after departure.

Passengers reported there were banging noise from one of the engines, one of the passengers believed the engine was shut down. The passengers were rebooked onto the flight next day which was upgraded to a Boeing 777 to accomodate all passengers. The airline apologized to passengers via e-mail stating the aircraft developed a technical issue.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Tenerife about 72 hours after landing back.
