An American Airlines Embraer ERJ-190, registration N946UW performing flight AA-2165 from Boston,MA to New York La Guardia,NY (USA) with 94 people on board, was in the initial climb out of Boston's runway 09 when the crew reported they had a bird strike right on rotation, a fairly large bird, they requested to stop climb at 3000 feet and to return to Boston. They didn't know about any damage, however, as a precaution they left the flaps and slats in position. ATC advised they declared emergency for the flight. The aircraft returned to Boston for a safe landing on runway 04R about 15 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled.
