A United Airbus A320-200, registration N452UA performing flight UA-545 from Vancouver,BC (Canada) to Denver,CO (USA) with 140 passengers and 5 crew, departed Vancouver's runway 26L when the aircraft flew through a flock of birds and received multiple bird strikes. The crew stopped the climb at 4000 feet and returned to Vancouver for a safe landing on runway 26R about 20 minutes after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported runway 26L was closed for about 15 minutes for cleanup. A number of ducks hat hit the left side of the fuselage and caused damage to 5 low pressure compressor blades of the left hand engine (V2527), blade tip curl and blade tips missing. The blade damage warranted an engine replacement.
