An Air Canada Boeing 737-8 MAX, registration C-FSEQ performing flight AC-534 from Kahului,HI (USA) to Vancouver,BC (Canada) with 134 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL370 over the Pacific Ocean when the crew received indications of low oil quantity and low oil pressure for the right hand engine (LEAP). The crew elected to continue the flight with increased monitoring of the engine. Reaching the top of descent into Vancouver the oil quantity indicated nearly zero, the crew proceeded to shut the engine down and declared emergency. The aircraft landed in Vancouver without further incident.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance determined the starter was defective causing the loss of engine oil as well as causing damage to the engine fan case. Starter and Engine were replaced.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service on Jan 31st.
