An Azza Transport Company Antonov AN-12 on behalf of Sudan's Air Force, registration ST-ASA performing a military flight from Khartoum to El Fasher (Sudan) with 16 passengers and 6 crew, was climbing out of Khartoum in the vicinity of Khartoum's proposed new airport about 22nm southwest of Khartoum Airport around 12:00L (09:00Z) when the crew first reported the failure of one engine and turned to return to Khartoum. The crew subsequently reported the failure of a second of the aircraft's four engines. The crew attempted an emergency landing, the aircraft however broke up before coming to rest near the proposed new airport and burst into flames. 15 occupants perished, 7 occupants are being treated in hospitals with injuries of varying degrees.

An Air Force spokesman said the Azza aircraft was taking 16 military personnel and goods to El Fasher when the crew reported the failure of an engine shortly followed by the failure of a second engine on the same wing. The crew attempted an emergency landing which went wrong however. 13 occupants died, 9 survived. Two occupants later died despite hospital care.

According to ATDB Azza Transport Company operate one Antonov AN-12BK registration ST-AZN MSN 9346808, the aircraft had been leased out to Sudan's Air Force in 2010 and 2011. Two Antonov AN-12BP registrations ST-ASA MSN 402010 as well as ST-ARV MSN 7345310 left Azza Transport's fleet to Sudan's Air Force in 2010. The fate of Azza Transport's AN-12BK, registration ST-DAS MSN 7345209, and AN-12BP registration ST-AQG MSN 401907 is unclear.

Photos show ST-AZN flying in Khartoum in an all white civil livery, label "Cargo", in April 2012, the last photos of ST-ASA date back to 2008. No photos are around of ST-DAS and ST-AQG, ST-ARV was photographed on the ground in Khartoum in an all white civil livery with the label "Green Flag Aviation" in December 2011.
