A Comair Boeing 737-400, registration ZS-OTF performing flight MN-6235/BA-6235 from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth (South Africa), was landing at Port Elizabeth when during the landing roll the right hand engine (CFM56) ingested a heron. The aircraft rolled out without further incident.

The aircraft was unable to depart for the return flight and remained on the ground for about 25 hours before positioning to Johannesburg, where the aircraft remained on the ground for another about 24 hours before returning to service.

The smallest heron in the area, the little egret, weighs between 0.33 and 0.55kg (0.7 to 1.2 lbs), the largest heron, the giant heron, weighs about 4 to 5kg (9 to 11 lbs).
