The ATSB reported the details of the flight on the radar display had been inhibited for about 30 minutes starting at 07:59L (21:59Z Sep 27th), which puts the point of loss of radar display about 35nm north of Sydney when the aircraft climbed through FL180. The ATSB opened an occurrence investigation stating that separation assurance was lost.
Airservices Australia, Australia's ATC provider, reported that radar contact was never lost, the aircraft was still being displayed on radar however without details and all additional layers of safety like ground based short term collision alert and onboard TCAS were still fully functional.
The airline said they were taking the air traffic control breach very seriously, their crew however are trained to deal with it. The aircraft was not in the proximity of any other aircraft at any time, all onboard systems including TCAS were functional.
