A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-300, registration N388SW performing flight WN-2102 from Tampa,FL to Hartford,CT (USA) with 130 people on board, was descending from 13,000 to 11,000 feet on approach to runway 06 when the crew reported they had heard a loud bang and now had a loud air noise, pressurization was normal and they couldn't find out what happened, they had no contact to the flight attendants but there was a loud noise at the right hand side of the aircraft. After the crew slowed the aircraft they reported they had established contact with the flight attendants again, they too reported loud air noise and didn't know what had happened, the crew suspected they blew a nose gear tyre or lost a nose gear door as they were too high to hit a bird or so. The crew continued for an ILS approach to runway 06. On final approach, upon contacting tower, the crew requested tower to have a look at the nose gear. The aircraft landed safely and vacated the runway stopping on the adjacent runway to have emergency services have a look onto the gear. Emergency services reported the nose cone as well as the right hand engine cowling was damaged, the crew said they were descending through FL200 when this happened. The aircraft subsequently taxied to the gate, emergency services reported this looked very much like a bird strike.

The FAA reported the aircraft struck birds and received damage to the radome and engine cowling.
