A Precision Air Services Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration 5H-PWD presumably performing flight PW-490 from Dar es Salaam to Mwanza (Tanzania), landed in Mwanza when the aircraft flew or rolled through a flock of birds and received multiple bird strikes causing the visbility through the windshield to be substantially reduced. The aircraft rolled out without further incident. A runway inspection showed countless bird remains on the runway surface.

A post flight inspection revealed countless bird strikes to the nose and windshield, there were feathers around all pitot tubes, birds embedded in the landing gear and in both engine inlets.

There are two flights by Precision Air to Mwanza, PW-722 arriving from Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) was scheduled to land at 11:10L (09:10Z), PW-490 was scheduled to land at 15:50L (13:50Z). First messages and photos released by Aviation Tanzania appeared at 17:25L (15:25Z).

5H-PWD, flights PW-490 and PW-722 were not visible in Mode-S transponder data available.
