Skywest CRJ2 at North Bend on Sep 5th 2018, dangerous closure to terrain

A Skywest Canadair CRJ-200, registration N472CA performing flight OO-5685 from San Francisco,CA to North Bend,OR (USA), was on final approach to North Bend's runway 04 when the crew initiated a go around, however, did not follow the standard missed approach procedure. The aircraft was vectored to safety and diverted to Eugene,OR for a safe landing about 17 minutes later.

The FAA reported: "The FAA is investigating a September 5 incident in which the crew of a SkyWest Canadair CL600 executed a non-standard missed approach when the aircraft was on its final approach to Runway 4 at Southwest Oregon Regional Airport. After executing the missed approach, the flight diverted to Eugene."

The Aviation Herald received information on Oct 10th 2018 that a Skywest CRJ nearly suffered a controlled flight into terrain on or around Oct 6th 2018 while on a go around in North Bend,OR [KOTH]. Analysis found a go around and diversion to Eugene on Oct 8th 2018, however, no dangerous closure to terrain. Nonetheless The Aviation Herald sent an inquiry to the FAA with the initial statement by our source, our analysis results (including that we couldn't find a dangerous closure, which however would not completely rule this out) and asked whether such an event was reported to the FAA resulting in the FAA statement quoted above.
