A Qatar Airways Airbus A320-200, registration A7-AHQ performing flight QR-601 from Peshawar (Pakistan) to Doha (Qatar), was in the initial climb out of Peshawar's runway 35 when the crew stopped the climb at 4000 feet due to smoke developing in the cabin and returned to Peshawar for a safe landing on runway 35 about 7 minutes after departure, the smoke dissipated. The aircraft vacated the runway and taxied to the apron.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 4.5 hours, then departed again but this time diverted to Muscat (Oman) for a brief tech stop of about 80 minutes before the aircraft continued to Doha and landed at the destination with a total delay of 7 hours.

On Sep 23rd 2018 Qatar Airways requested: "Kindly update find following statement from Qatar Airways below" (basically stating exactly the same that we already had reported). The statement reads in full: "?Flight QR 601 from Peshawar to Doha experienced some smoke in the cabin shortly after departure due to a minor technical issue. The Airbus A320 aircraft returned to Peshawar and landed safely at 05:23. Passengers disembarked normally and maintenance was carried out.?"
