A CAL Caribbean Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration 9Y-MBJ performing flight BW-552 from Saint Vincent (Saint Vincent) to New York JFK,NY (USA), was climbing out of Saint Vincent's runway 22 when the crew stopped the climb at FL240 and decided to divert to Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago) due to a bird strike. The aircraft burned off fuel and landed safely in Port of Spain about one hour after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration 9Y-SXM reached New York with a delay of 3 hours.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 14 hours after landing.
