A Blue Air Boeing 737-400, registration YR-BAS performing flight 0B-4541 from Alghero to Rome Fiumicino (Italy), was in the initial climb out of Alghero's runway 20 when a bird impacted the aircraft prompting the crew to stop the climb at 6000 feet and return to Alghero for a safe landing on runway 20 about 15 minutes after departure.

Passengers reported the crew indicated they had received a bird strike into an engine (CFM56) during the takeoff run and needed to return to Alghero.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration YR-BMO reached Rome with a delay of about 5.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service the following day after about 15.5 hours on the ground.
