Saudi Arabia's National Football Association assured their fans that the national team is safe. A minor technical malfunction had occurred in one of the aircraft's engines.
The airline reported the aircraft touched down with both engines operating, an engine ingested a bird. Media reports of an engine fire are untrue.
On Jun 19th 2018 Russia's Rosaviatsia reported upon landing the right hand engine surged. The aircraft taxied to the apron where the 70 passengers and 8 crew disembarked. The aircraft is being examined.
On Jun 20th 2018 Rosaviatsia detailed, that the crew received an engine oil filter clogged indication during the descent towards Rostov, at 900 meters the right hand engine showed increased vibrations, after touch down the crew received the message "ENG 2 FAIL" followed by an automatic shut down. The damage to the right hand engine is still being assessed.
On Jun 28th 2018 it became known that Rosaviatsia told other accident investigation boards that after touch down, during landing roll out, a tail pipe fire ensued on the right hand engine which was followed by an automatic engine shut down. Russia's Civil Aviation Authority (Rosaviatsia) wrote: "On post-flight inspection the engine 2 jamming detected." The aircraft suffered minor damage. The occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated by Rosaviatsia.
A video circulating on the Internet showing continuous flame from the tailpipe for at least 16 seconds in flight and in pitch dark night appears to raise serious questions about its authenticity in the light of photos released by the Saudi Arabian National Football team showing the arrival in dusk.
