A SriLankan Airbus A330-300, registration 4R-ALP performing flight UL-225 from Colombo (Sri Lanka) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates), was enroute at FL380 over the Arabian Sea when the crew decided to divert to Muscat (Oman). The aircraft landed on Muscat's runway 26R and vacated the runway to the right onto a remote apron near the end of the runway.

Arriving aircraft were told the airport was closed for an indefinite time, approaches resumed about 30 minutes after landing of 4R-ALP.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 5.5 hours, then continued the flight to Dubai landing in Dubai about 6 hours past schedule.

One passenger complained: "Not enough fuel to complete the journey. Emergency landing in Muscat and 6 hours of circus plus other 4 of lies!!!"

Another passenger reported that they diverted to Muscat for unknown reason.

A ground observer's video shows several police cars amongst the fire engines attenting to the aircraft.

The airline as well as Muscat Airport did not respond to inquiries by The Aviation Herald trying to verify or falsify the passenger complaint and identify the true cause of the diversion, which appears to be more related to a security issue than a low fuel issue.
