A PIA Pakistan International Airlines Avions de Transport Regional ATR-42-500, registration AP-BHM performing flight PK-588 from Karachi to Bahawalpur (Pakistan) with 41 people on board, was on final approach to Bahawalput when the crew initiated a go around. While on the go around the crew received a fire indication for the right hand engine, performed the checklists, shut the engine down, positioned for another approach and landed safely in Bahawalpur.

The onward sector to Islamabad was cancelled.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 33 hours, then continued to Islamabad as flight PK-8588.
