A Kenya Airways Embraer ERJ-190, registration 5Y-KYP performing flight KQ-704 from Harare (Zimbabwe) to Lusaka (Zambia) with 96 passengers, struck a bird on departure from Harare and returned to Harare for a safe landing.

Passengers reported there were severe vibrations as the aircraft climbed out. The captain subsequently announced they had some technical problem and were returning to Harare.

The airline confirmed the incident reporting the bird strike happened while the aircraft was still on the runway.

According to information The Aviation Herald received two fan blades were damaged as result of the bird strike and needed to be replaced.

Zimbabwe's Civil Aviation Authority opened an investigation into the occurrence.
