A VivaAerobus Airbus A320-200, registration EI-ERH performing flight VB-2307 from Merida to Guadalajara (Mexico) with 166 people on board, was climbing out of Merida's runway 36 when the crew stopped the climb at 7000 feet due to a problem with the landing gear. The aircraft returned to Merida for a safe landing on runway 10 about 45 minutes after departure.

A replacement A320-200 registration XA-VAG reached Guadalajara with a delay of 11 hours.

On May 17th 2018 Mexico's AIB reported the crew had doubts over the position of the landing gear while climbing out of Merida, entered a holding pattern to verify the landing gear position and remove the doubt, then decided to return to Merida for a safe overweight landing. The aircraft did not receive any damage. The occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated by Mexico's AIB.
