A Frontier Airlines Airbus A319-100, registration N923FR performing flight F9-195 from Raleigh/Durham,NC to Austin,TX (USA) with 129 passengers and 5 crew, was descending towards Austin when the crew declared emergency due to a problem with an engine (CFM56). On Approach frequency while descending through 16,000 feet the crew reported the right hand engine had suffered a number of compressor stalls, was operating normally again but still may have to be secured, therefore the crew had declared emergency, they requested a descent as continous as possible as they believed the stalls were triggered by thrust changes on the engine. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Austin's runway 17R about 15 minutes after the engine problems.

A replacement A320-200N registration N310FR performed the next sector to Denver,CO (USA) with a delay of about 4 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Austin about 20 hours after landing.
