A Delta Airlines Boeing 757-300, registration N590NW performing flight DL-1217 from Detroit,MI to Las Vegas,NV (USA) with 219 passengers, departed Detroit's runway 22L when the aircraft suffered a bird strike. The aircraft continued the climb, but levelled off at FL260 continuing in the general direction of Las Vegas initially, the crew decided to divert to Minneapolis,MN about 40 minutes into the flight. The aircraft landed safely on Minneapolis' runway 30L about 90 minutes after departure from Detroit.

A replacement Boeing 757-300 registration N582NW reached Las Vegas with a delay of 2.5 hours.

The FAA reported the crew decided to divert to Minneapolis due to a rough running engine following a bird strike on departure from Detroit.
