A THY Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration TC-JGV performing flight TK-2909 from Izmir to Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen (Turkey), was in the initial climb out of Izmir's runway 16L when a bird impacted the aircraft prompting the crew to stop the climb at 6000 feet and return to Izmir for a safe landing on runway 16L about 30 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto the next flight.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 20 hours, then positioned to Sabiha Gokcen Airport but has not yet returned to service about 36 hours after landing back in Izmir.
