A Severstal Canadair CRJ-200, registration RA-67234 performing flight D2-19 from Cherepovets to Saint Petersburg (Russia), was climbing out of Cherepovets when the crew stopped the climb and returned to Cherepovets due to a thrust reverser unlocked indication (engine CF34). The aircraft landed safely back in Cherepovets about 25 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported about 10 minutes into the flight the crew announced they would return to Cherepovets and land there in 15 minutes due to a technical problem. After landing the passenger observed maintenance engineers working on the right hand engine's thrust reverser. A replacement aircraft reached Cherepovets, before departure - already with passengers on board but aircraft doors open - were apparently testing the engines by accelerating the engines to (nearly) full thrust with the brakes applied before taxiing out and departing.

The airline, when asked about the thrust reverser unlocked indication, reported they are operating modern Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft in accordance with Russian and international legislation. The aircraft returned to Cherepovets due to technical reasons and deteriorating weather conditions at Saint Petersburg.

A replacement CRJ-200 registration RA-67231 reached Saint Petersburg with a delay of 3.5 hours.
