An AirAsia X Airbus A330-300, registration 9M-XXV performing flight D7-523 from Tokyo Haneda (Japan) to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) with 369 passengers and 10 crew, was enroute at FL380 about 130nm northeast of Okinawa (Japan) when the crew needed to shut the right hand engine (Trent 772) down. The aircraft diverted to Okinawa for a safe landing about 45 minutes later.

Japan's Ministry of Transport reported the crew received indication of a right hand engine problem and shut the engine down.
