A Copa Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration HP-1713CMP performing flight CM-821 from Panama City (Panama) to Porto Alegre,RS (Brazil), was enroute near Rio Branco,AC (Brazil), about 1400nm into the 2800nm flight, when loud knocking metallic sounds were heard from below the floor of the passenger cabin. The crew decided to divert the aircraft to Rio Branco for a safe landing about 4 hours after departure from Panama City.

The passengers were taken to hotels while waiting for a replacement aircraft.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration HP-1538CMP left Panama City at 01:10L Sep 11th (06:10Z), about 10 hours after scheduled departure from Panama City, and is currently estimated to reach Porto Alegre with a delay of 12 hours.

A passenger tweeted they were having problems with the landing gear.

There is no information available as of yet what caused the noise.
