A Swiss Airbus A340-300, registration HB-JMN performing flight LX-39 (dep Aug 10th) from San Francisco,CA (USA) to Zurich (Switzerland), was on approach to Zurich just north of Waldshut (Germany) about to intercept the localizer to runway 14 about 15nm before touchdown and descending through about 4500 feet when the crew spotted a glider aircraft in very close vicinity slightly above. The A340 continued for a safe landing on Zurich's runway 14 about 6 minutes later.

The Swiss BFU reported on Sep 10th they opened an investigation into the airprox event between the A343 and an unknown glider plane describing the event as "Close encounter between an Airbus A343 during line-up for ILS-approach RWY 14 at Zürich Airport 15 NM out and a glider at 4700ft, unknown to ATC."
