A Norra Nordic Regional Airlines on behalf of Finnair, registration OH-ATM performing flight AY-1072 from Riga (Latvia) to Helsinki (Finland) with 28 passengers and 4 crew, was in the initial climb through 4000 feet out of Riga's runway 18 when the crew declared Mayday, advised they were going to level off at 5000 feet and continue straight ahead for a while. About 5 minutes later the crew advised they had gotten things back under control, they were in normal operation again but would like to return to Riga. The crew subsequently reported they had engine #1 (PW127, left hand) problems, however, were able to solve the problem and were back in normal operation. The aircraft landed safely back on Riga's runway 18 about 25 minutes after departure.

The airline confirmed a technical fault caused the aircraft to return to Riga. The passengers were rebooked onto other flights.
