The airline reported the aircraft returned due to an engine (CFM56) problem. The other three engines were working normally.
On Jan 12th 2018 the airline told The Aviation Herald, that the #3 engine (inboard right hand) was suffering from compressor stalls while levelling off for cruise after the climb out of Zurich, the engine however recovered and was running smoothly again. In consultation with maintenance and dispatch the crew decided to return to Zurich to avoid further problems during the Oceanic crossing or at Cancun perhaps grounding the aircraft in Cancun.
