A Delta Airlines Boeing 767-400, registration N830MH performing flight DL-284 from Atlanta,GA (USA) to London Heathrow,EN (UK) with 228 people on board, was climbing through FL280 out of Atlanta's runway 09L when the right hand engine (CF6) emitted a loud bang prompting the crew to stop the climb at FL290 and return to Atlanta advising ATC their right hand engine just had suffered a compressor stall. The aircraft landed safely back on Atlanta's runway 09L about 67 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 767-400 registration N828MH departed for London about 3 hours after N830MH landed, however, also needed to return to Atlanta, see Incident: Delta B764 at Atlanta on Jan 3rd 2018, sound like engine compressor stall.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground 15 hours after landing back.
