An Aerolineas Argentinas Airbus A340-300, registration LV-CSF performing flight AR-1372 from Buenos Aires Ezeiza,BA (Argentina) to Cancun (Mexico), was enroute when the crew reported a problem with the #2 engine (CFM56, left inboard). The crew continued the flight to Cancun, where the aircraft landed without further incident.

Mexico's Civil Aviation Authority rated the occurrence a serious incdient and opened an investigation stating that the crew reported a high temperature problem with engine #2 at an unknown phase of flight. The aircraft landed later without further incident.

Data off the aircraft's transponder show the aircraft was enroute at FL380 just south of Panama City (Panama), about 860nm south of Cancun, when the aircraft descended to FL340. About 440nm south of Cancun the aircraft climbed to FL360 temporarily and returned to FL340 maintaining FL340 until reaching top of descent into Cancun.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Cancun for 30 hours, then returned to service.
