A Budapest Air Service Embraer EMB-120 on behalf of FlexFlight, registration HA-FAI performing flight W2-5650 from Savonlinna to Helsinki (Finland) with 13 passengers, was climbing out of Savonlinna when the crew could not retract the landing gear, stopped the climb and returned to Savonlinna for a safe landing.

The rotation W2-5650/W2-5651 to Helsinki and back was cancelled.

The airline reported the aircraft needed to return being unable to retract the landing gear. Some of the passengers were taken to Helsinki by taxis, others decided not to continue the journey. The gear locking mechanism did not release the landing gear, so that it could not be retracted, and was replaced.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Savonlinna for about 8 hours, then was able to depart for the afternoon rotation to Helsinki.
