A United Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N589UA performing flight UA-2118 from Los Angeles,CA to Newark,NJ (USA), was climbing out of Los Angeles' runway 25R climbing through about FL200 when the crew advised they needed to return to Los Angeles reporting they had some resistance on the flight controls. The aircraft returned to Los Angeles for a safe landing on runway 25L about 30 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 757-200 registration N590UA reached Newark with a delay of 5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 26 hours, then returned to service.
