A Skywest Canadair CRJ-200 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N955SW performing flight OO-3126/AA-3126 from Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA) to Montreal,QC (Canada), was on final approach to Montreal's runway 24R maintaining 3000 feet.
Air Traffic Control instructed DL-1870 to turn onto heading 080 degrees, the crew however turned onto a heading of 180 degrees and into the path of the Canadair. ATC intervened and turned the Boeing left, the Delta crew confirmed having the Canadair in sight. The Canadair continued their approach for a safe landing, the Boeing positioned onto the approach again, too, and also landed safely.
The Canadian TSB reported the horizontal separation between the two aircraft both at 3000 feet reduced to 1.5nm where 5nm were required.
