An Avianca Peru Airbus A320-200, registration N491TA performing flight AV-826 from Lima to Piura (Peru), was enroute about 190nm northnorthwest of Lima when the crew initiated an emergency descent due to the loss of cabin pressure, the passenger oxygen masks deployed, and returned to Lima for a safe landing about 70 minutes after departure.

Peru's Comision de investigacion de accidentes de aviacion (CIAA) rated the occurrence a serious incident and opened an investigation.
