A Wizz Air Airbus A320-200, registration HA-LWT performing flight W6-3303 from Cluj (Romania) to London Luton,EN (UK), was climbing through about 4000 feet AGL out of Cluj's runway 25 when three loud bangs within a second were heard and the crew received an ECAM message indicating "Eng. No.1 Stall", the #1 engine's (V2527) EGT also went over limits. The crew reduced the engine to idle thrust, the EGT settled at about normal temperatures and no further abnormal engine parameters were observed. The crew declared PAN and decided to divert to Budapest (Hungary), the aircraft levelled off at FL110 for the diversion. About 7 minutes after the engine was reduced to idle the crew received another ECAM message indicating that the EGT of the left hand engine had again over limit. The crew declared Mayday, shut the left hand engine down and continued to Budapest for a safe landing on Budapest's runway 31R about 45 minutes after departure from Cluj.

Hungary's KBSZ rated the occurrence an incident and opened an investigation.
