A White Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A on behalf of TAP Portugal, registration CS-DJD performing flight TP-1136 from Lisbon (Portugal) to Malaga,SP (Spain), departed Lisbon's runway 03 when the crew heard a loud noise making them believe a cargo door might have opened. Another aircraft waiting for departure advised the departing ATR had dropped something onto the runway. The ATR climbed out stopping the climb at about FL130. In the meantime all arriving aircraft were pulled off the approaches and sent into holds advising of an obstruction on the runway, delay was unknown. A runway inspection found debris on the runway. The ATR crew decided to return to Lisbon and landed safely on runway 03 about 35 minutes after departure.

A postflight inspection revealed the inboard access door of the right hand engine had separated.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground more than 5 days later.
