A Dana Air McDonnell Douglas MD-83, flight 9J-334 from Uyo to Lagos (Nigeria), was enroute near Port Harcourt when the crew noticed indication of a possible fuel leak. The crew decided to divert to Port Harcourt where the aircraft landed safely.

Following maintenance the aircraft was able to continue the flight and reached Lagos with delay.

Passengers reported that some time into the flight cabin crew began to look out the windows onto both wings making the passengers aware of something unusual going on. Soon after the captain announced they were diverting to Port Harcourt due to a technical fault. After landing it first appeared the aircraft would not be able to continue the flight, however, they were not permitted to disembark, then the crew announced that the fault had been rectified and they were about to continue. Cabin crew subsequently indicated that a fuel cap had not been properly closed upon refueling in Uyo.
