A Cobham Aviation Boeing 717-200 on behalf of Qantas/Qantaslink, registration VH-YQU performing flight QF-1506 from Hobart,TA to Melbourne,VI (Australia), had just reached cruise level 340 about 110nm north of Hobart when the crew decided to return to Hobart. During the descent back to Hobart the crew discussed transponder issues with air traffic control, ATC acknowledged to receive the squawk properly. The aircraft landed safely back on Hobart's runway 12 about 40 minutes after departure.

Qantas reported a minor indication fault which was quickly fixed.

The aircraft departed again after about 110 minutes on the ground and reached Melbourne with a delay of 140 minutes.

A passenger tweeted the aircraft had turned around because of engine problems.
