A Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300, registration B-HNI performing flight CX-712 from Bangkok (Thailand) to Hong Kong (China) with 398 passengers and 16 crew, was enroute close to top of descent when a male passenger (52) assaulted two flight attendants injuring both. The other passengers rushed to assist the cabin crew in subdueing the unruly passenger and also received minor injuries. The unruly passenger was restrained. The flight crew continued the flight to Hong Kong for a safe landing, police arrested the unruly passenger. The injured passengers did not require hospitalisation, the flight attendants were taken to a hospital with minor injuries and were released the same day.

Hong Kong Police reported the passenger has been charged with interference with flight crew and has to stand trial in Hong Kong next week remaining in prison at least until then.

The airline confirmed the assault on their cabin crew stating there was no evidence of a terrorist background. The airline wishes to extend their gratitude to the passengers who helped cabin crew to subdue the unruly passenger.
