Wisconsin CRJ2 near Philadelphia on Mar 3rd 2012, turbulence injures flight attendant

An Air Wisconsin Canadair CRJ-200 on behalf of US Airways, registration N453AW performing flight ZW-3733/US-3733 from Cleveland,OH to Philadelphia,PA (USA) with 50 people on board, was on approach to Philadelphia descending through about 10,000 feet when the crew reported a flight attendant had been injured and requested an ambulance to await the aircraft. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on runway 26 about 10 minutes later.

The FAA reported the aircraft encountered severe turbulence causing unknown injuries to a flight attendant.

On May 27th 2017 the NTSB released their final report into the occurrence rated an accident concluding the probable cause was:

an inadvertent encounter with clear air turbulence during descent

The NTSB reported the aircraft was descending through 17,000 feet when the aircraft encountered light turbulence, the flight crew illuminated the "fasten seat belt" signs. A short time later the aircraft encountered severe clear air turbulence causing a loss of about 300 feet of altitude. At that time a flight attendant was in the aft galley securing a beverage cart and was thrown against the ceiling and then against the floor. A passenger assisted the flight attendant into her jump seat. The flight attendant was taken to a hospital after landing and was diagnosed with a fracture of her L-1 vertebrae.
