An American Airlines Airbus A330-200, registration N288AY performing flight AA-740 from Philadelphia,PA (USA) to Madrid,SP (Spain), departed Philadelphia's runway 27L and was in the initial climb when the crew requested to level off at 5000 feet advising they were almost certain they had a panel door open and were trying to figure out what was going on. The crew subsequently requested to return to Philadelphia runway 27R. The aircraft landed on runway 27L about 30 minutes after departure.

A replacement Airbus A330-200 registration N291AY reached Madrid with a delay of close to 4 hours.

On Dec 20th 2016 The Aviation Herald learned that the aircraft had received a bird strike against the #1 engine (Trent 772, left hand) cowl/thrust reverser door. The aircraft is still on the ground (standing Dec 20th) as result.
