A Sky Airline Airbus A320-200, registration CC-ABW performing flight H2-8 from Punta Arenas to Santiago (Chile), was climbing through FL310 out of Punta Arenas when the crew decided to return to Punta Arenas. The aircraft landed safely on Punta Arenas' runway 25 about 50 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported the crew made no announcement to the cause of the return. After landing after the passengers had disembarked maintenance opened and worked on the right hand engine (V2527) for a couple of hours, then the passengers were informed that a replacement aircraft would be sent in from Santiago.

A replacement A319-100 registration CC-AFZ positioned from Santiago as flight H2-9000 and as H2-8 delivered the passengers to Santiago with a delay of 9.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 69 hours, then positioned to Santiago as flight H2-9000 and resumed service.
