Passengers reported that after the burning smell developed the cabin lights went out temporarily.
Japan's Ministry of Transport reported that nothing was found wrong with the aircraft, the fumes were identified as vapour from the air conditioning system.
The aircraft departed again after about 3.5 hours on the ground and reached Honolulu with a delay of 3:20 hours.
